Biography:
Usurpress is a death metal-band (of sorts) formed in Uppsala May 2010. The musical aim of founding members Steffe (vocals), Påhl (guitar) and Calle (drums) was, and still is, to combine the bestiality of old death metal and the undying hate of true hardcore/punk. We call our music “death crust” as we write short, aggressive songs built on wierd, dissonant death metal riffs and raw, primitive d-beat drumming.
In the weeks after the formation of the band we recruited bassist Lawrence and released our debut offering, the 4-song demo simply called Demo 2010. The demo is now completely sold out, by the way. In September the same year, we replaced Lawrence with Danne and secured a deal with Spanish label Throne Records. Our next recording was 8 songs for a split-LP with Spanish deathrockers Galerna, which should have been released early summer 2011. That didn’t happened so instead the recording was released as In Permanent Twilight on 12″ on Plauge Island and on CD on SelfMadeGod. While we were sorting things out we recorded new material for split-7″:s with Bombs of Hades and Pyramido. Right now Usurpress are working on new songs for our first full lenght LP/CD Trenches of the Netherworld out in June 2012 on Iconoclast (LP) and SelfMadeGod (CD). We’re also always looking for gigs with great metal and/or crust-bands and in June-July 2012 we will tour Europe for the first time.
